The Bank of Canada met on October 29th and lowered the rate by .25%Β

Key interest rate sits at 2.25% (This time last year it was at 3.75%)

Why did they lower? The economy shrank as exports dropped, business made few investments and the labour market showed weakness specifically in trade war vulnerable industries.

Next Meeting is December 10th, then January 28th 2026.

Read This: The Park Theatre Was Saved

Recently Cineplex announced they would be closing the Park Theatre on Cambie Street at the end of their lease. Luckily the group the runs the Rio Theatre on East Broadway has stepped it to keep the theatre running. It was going to be turned into a gym!

I have a lot of love for this place - WAY back in the day I’d go there for Spike and Mike’s Animation Festivals. Recently I’ve taken advantage of their 70mm projector to see Tarantinos β€œHateful Eight” and many films in-between. Cineplex is moving the projector to another theatre - but the Park has found another one that should be up and going by next Spring.

It fills me with joy to see places like these saved. All the smaller theatres of my youth are gone (The Eagle Ridge 6, The Dolphin on Hastings, Lougheed Town Centre Theatre, New Westminster Mall Cinemas) and we are just left with larger Cineplex mega theatres. They have their place but where are my kids going to see $2 movies, art house small runs and retro throw back movies when they grow up!?! I literally watched Waynes World 2 six times at the Eagle Ridge Theatre - it’s now a gym. . .

Just this summer the Hollywood 3 cinema in Pitt Meadows closed. One of the last independent small venue theatres left in the lower mainland. And they’re replacing it with a Dollarama… we don’t need more dollar stores! Now this theatre doesn’t have the architecture that the Park does but it’s going to leave a void in the community, one that I’ll lament.

Alright - β€œ1980’s kid” rant over!

β€” Dream Home of the Month β€”

Ok this one isn’t in Vancouver… it’s in the Hollywood Hills. I originally looked at it because it was previously owned by Jerry Bruckheimer (Top Gun, The Rock, Beverly Hills Cop - so many good movies!) but the reason I’m sharing it is the architecture.

The water features, the 24’ long kitchen island, the open air living spaces - amazing.

I forced my daughter to spend the day watching classic 007 movies with me.

She was annoyed, but I still think we formed a BOND.

Wasn’t that a great read?
